Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Cancun Good for Snorkeling?
Cancun is one of the best places for snorkeling in the world due to three simple things:
- Visibility: Turquoise, clear water like a swimming pool. It’s on another level.
- Shallow Water: On average, Cancun snorkeling spots are 10 feet deep (3 meters). The deepest snorkeling spots are a maximum of 18 feet (6 meters).
- Ecosystem: Plenty of colors, fish, turtles, a museum, the second-largest coral reef barrier, cenotes, and a shipwreck, all in one place.
Is snorkeling in Cancun safe?
Definitely! Just keep in mind to hire a certified tour guide or snorkeling company.
Take a look at the quality and state of the boat and equipment before departing. Nothing fancy, but you’ll recognize when something is not right.
Do I need to know how to swim to go to a snorkeling tour?
Yes!
You don’t have to be a strong swimmer to join Cancun Snorkel Brothers Tours. We provide lifevests and a certified guide will be in the water with a lifebouy next to you at all times! Beginners are more than welcome to join us!
What gear do I need to bring?
Only your bathing suit, a towel and a change of clothes. We provide the mask, snorkel, fins, and weights (for pros).
What marine life can I expect to see?
A lot of fish, octopus, seahorses, turtles, mantas. Corals and grass fields are always there. It will depend on your luck to find all the species above.
Are there age restrictions for snorkeling?
We recommend the activity for children over 4 years old. However if toddler is good in water and loves it, they are always welcome.
Can I snorkel off the beach without booking a tour?
Swimming from the shore to the coral reef is very, very dangerous.
Not knowing the sea currents, traffic areas and the real distance from the shore, can be tragic.
But light snorkeling can be done in the shore. There are some rock formations where you can find fish and other ecosystems.
